The Valhal Outdoor 9L Oval Dutch Oven is a heavy-duty cast iron pot built for cooking for a crowd over fire. Its oval shape takes a whole chicken, a leg of lamb or a long loaf of bread, and the lid has a raised rim so you can pile hot coals on top and bake like an oven. Flip the lid over and the grill pattern on the inside turns it into a grill pan. Use it on the braai, in a kamado, in the oven or on the stove – potjiekos, slow-cooked stews, pot bread and roasts.

FAQ

Can I use it on a braai or open fire?
Yes. Set it on a grid over the coals, or put it straight into the oven or a kamado. To raise it above loose coals, stand it on a cast iron trivet.

Is it pre-seasoned?
Yes. Valhal pre-seasons all its cast iron with vegetable oil, so you can cook in it straight away.

Does it work on induction?
Yes. The flat cast iron base works on induction, gas and electric hobs.

Care

Pre-seasoned with vegetable oil, so it is ready to use. Heat it up well before the first cook. After cooking, clean with hot water and a brush or chain-mail scrubber, dry it completely over low heat and wipe on a thin layer of cooking oil. Not dishwasher safe. Avoid plunging hot cast iron into cold water. The natural non-stick layer builds up with every cook, so the more you use it, the better it gets. Look after it and it will last a lifetime.
